When the whole system is done, a mini split is not the answer. Old West Minisplits also replaces full ducted central systems, the outdoor condenser or heat pump, the indoor air handler or furnace coil, and the thermostat, for homes from 1,000 to 3,400 square feet.
We come out, measure the house, check the ductwork, and give you the price in writing before anything is ordered.

What size system your home needs
These are Central Texas starting points. Insulation, windows, ceiling height and which way the house faces all move the number, so the final size comes from a load calculation at the walkthrough, not from square footage alone.

Oversizing is the most common mistake in Texas. A system that is too big cools the air fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out, so the house feels clammy at 74. Sizing it right matters more than buying the biggest unit.
Replace the whole system, or just part of it?
Replace everything when the system is older than about 12 to 15 years, still runs R-22 refrigerant, or needs a compressor or coil on top of other repairs. Mismatched old and new halves run inefficiently and void most equipment warranties.
Repair it when the system is under about 10 years old and the problem is a single part such as a capacitor, contactor, fan motor or drain. We will tell you which one you are looking at.
Add mini splits when the central system is fine but one room, a garage or an addition never cools. That is the flat-rate service on the rest of this site.

Can I keep my existing ductwork?
Usually, if it is sealed and sized for the new system. We check it at the walkthrough and tell you if anything needs work.
Heat pump or AC with a furnace?
In Central Texas a heat pump handles most winters well and is the common choice. If you already have gas heat you like, we can match an AC to it.
