Does the flat price include the electrical work and the pad for the outdoor unit?

Yes. The flat price of $2,000 for one zone, $3,700 for two, or $5,400 for three covers the complete installation. That means the dedicated circuit run from the panel to the disconnect box, the outdoor composite equipment pad, the line set, the wall penetration, the mounting hardware, and all labor. We do not tack on a separate electrical charge after the fact. The only exception would be if your panel needs a major upgrade to accommodate the new breaker, which is rare in 78704 homes, and we would discuss that with you before any work begins.

How long does a typical install take in Austin?

A single-zone install in a 78704 home usually takes between four and six hours from arrival to cleanup. A two-zone system at $3,700 typically runs a full eight-hour day. A three-zone install at $5,400 may take a day and a half depending on the layout and how far apart the indoor heads are located. We will give you a clear timeframe when we confirm your date so you can plan around it. The crew works efficiently and cleans up thoroughly before they leave.

Can these units heat as well as cool?

They can. Every mini split we install in Austin is a heat pump, which means it reverses the refrigeration cycle to provide heat when outdoor temperatures drop. They work well for the mild winter weather we get in Central Texas and are a great way to take the edge off a chilly morning without firing up a whole central furnace. They are not a substitute for a primary heating system in extremely cold climates, but for 78704 winters, they handle the job just fine.

Do I need to pull a permit for a mini split install in 78704?

The City of Austin generally requires a mechanical and electrical permit for a ductless mini split installation. Old West Minisplits pulls the necessary permits as part of the job. The flat price you see, $2,000 for one zone, $3,700 for two, or $5,400 for three, includes the permit fees within the Austin city limits. We handle the paperwork and schedule the inspection if one is required. You do not need to chase anything down at the city offices.

What if I want a mini split in a detached garage or casita?

We install in detached structures all the time around 78704. A single-zone system at $2,000 is a popular choice for a garage workshop or a backyard casita. The install process is the same: we mount the indoor head on an exterior wall, set the outdoor condenser on a pad next to the structure, and run the electrical from the nearest panel. If the detached building has its own subpanel, we tie in there. If not, we run the circuit from the main house panel, and the flat price still covers it.

Newer houses, the rooms builders skip

About 33% of homes in 78602 were built in 2010 or later. Newer builds usually come with one central system sized for the main floor, so bonus rooms, garages, offices and upstairs bedrooms run hot.

A mini split handles that one room on its own thermostat, without reworking the builder's system.

Heating with electricity? A heat pump does it cheaper

About 76% of homes in 78602 heat with electricity. If that heat comes from resistance strips, baseboards or space heaters, a heat pump mini split usually costs less to run, because it moves heat instead of making it.

Every mini split we install is a heat pump: the same unit cools all summer and heats all winter.

Owner-occupied streets

About 70% of occupied homes in 78602 are owner-occupied. Owners tend to fix the problem room for good instead of pushing a window unit into it every May. A mini split is quiet, permanent and works on its own thermostat.

What it costs here

The median home value in 78602 is about $310,300. The install price doesn't move with it: One zone is $2,000 installed, two zones $3,700, three zones $5,400. Equipment, labor, line set, standard electrical and a touch-up paint run are included. Financing is available on approved credit for two-zone jobs and up: see the full terms.
